PIXY is a project Experientiae Electricae conceived for both it's own use and collaboration with other video artists who would create other content for the object or even live performance.
PIXY has come from the need to overcome already existing video diffusion supports. Artists want to play with image and take over challenges. PIXY offers them in two ways first with the choice of low resolution then it's physical properties, it resituates a video image that one can manipulate and physically transform, it's structure is not limited to plane surfaces, it can take volumic shapes.
PIXY is made of a limited number of small electroluminescent squares, Each square corresponds to a video pixel therefore defining the image's resolution and the aesthetic of the whole. The variable luminescence of each square let us reproduce a low resolution animated image in monochromatic tones.
We built a first reduced size prototype at Videographe ( Montreal ) to test the technology. We are currently on the process of finding a structure for the realisation of PIXY large scale.
The low resolution image puts an emphasis on movement and subjective interpretation, thus the constraints brought by low resolution volumic structure let us explore the production of very abstract animated images, the viewer will mainly perceive the movement aesthetics and volumic environment created by the artist for PIXY . The artist far from being limited by the technological choices of PIXY will quickly overcome them to accede to a universe of imagination; the interpretation our mind makes of those restraint images provokes a mental pleasure and opens a world of possibilities. |
